It's easy to give in to feelings of panic and doom in this pandemic. The global crisis doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. Even with talks of a vaccine, there's a lot of things that are up in the air right now. No one really knows for sure what will happen in the future.

Can you still take your tests and exams? What about college applications in the next few years? What's going to happen now? If you're wracked by anxiety and worry, you're not alone. But you don't have to stay in that mood.

Staying positive will be a much better use of your time and energy. After all, you can't really do anything about what's going on out there. But you can take control of your mood and the way you react to these things.

Here are tips on how you can stay positive:

Don't Let Paranoia Take Over

It's natural that you're worried about the future. Will you ever get to hang out with your friends again? Will you ever go back to the GIIS school campus?

But don't let those anxieties bog you down. If things don't go back to the way they were, then you can be sure people will keep finding ways to co-exist and improve on the present conditions. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen eventually, so all hope isn't lost.

Eat Healthy

Staying fit and healthy can do a great deal to help you stay positive in this pandemic. That means ditching unhealthy diets. If you often have a ton of sugar in your daily meals, this is a good time to cut back on that. Being at home means you have greater control over your meals. You could prepare them ahead or have meals according to a healthy diet plan. Either way, you have plenty of options to stay healthy. Explore them.

Exercise Regularly

Exercise daily. Regular exercise doesn't just help you achieve the shape you want; it also releases happy hormones in your system. That's another way to help you stay in a positive mental state. Also, exercise improves blood circulation in your body which helps prevent a number of health conditions.

An hour of exercise every day is enough to get you to sweat and feel that you're working hard to get your body back in shape. That feeling of accomplishment also contributes to a positive and happy state of mind. Also, when you feel good about yourself, you'll feel good in general.

Have a Routine

Routines help you stay focused and productive. With a routine, you know what you're supposed to get done on a particular day and those daily goals help keep you going. When you start feeling down, thinking about the future or its uncertainty, routine helps you focus on what you have right now and what you can be doing with your time.

Study a Language

If you find yourself with time on your hands, start studying a language. Treat it as your pet project. Since GIIS is one of the best international schools in Bangalore, it has a plethora of extracurricular activities. Sign up for co-curricular or extracurricular activities at school. Anything that can keep you busy and get you to do something will take your mind off your worries and anxieties.

Start a Project

You can also start a pet project. What do you want to do? Do you want to collect stamps? That could be a good activity. Do you want to start checking out college applications and submission guidelines? That's an excellent way to get ahead on your future plans.

If you're interested in applying for educational grants, this is also a good time to go over their requirements. Being one of the best international schools in Bangalore, GIIS has a wide range of educational grants. If you have a year or so to prepare, go ahead and start taking measures like being more active and improving your extracurricular profile.

How long has it been since you went through your things? If it's been years and you've always had little or no time to throw out your test papers from way back or you still have books and notebooks from your preschool, it might be a good time to throw them out. Go over your belongings and declutter.

Toss anything that you haven't used for more than 10 years. If you hadn't used them then, there's no chance that you'll use them now. Clearing out the clutter in your room helps you achieve a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Such feelings increase your positivity.

Indulge in Your Hobby

If you have a hobby, then indulge in it at this time. Do you love to read sci-fi stories? Do you find yourself playing video games that could go for hours? What about binge-watching your favorite shows, or doing pop-ups? Maybe you love working with your hands and you tend to get lost in your ideas when you work on mixed art sculptures. Do whatever you want. As long as you have enough time for sleep, studying, and your hobby, you should be fine.

Try Something New

Have you ever tried to bake before? Did you always want to learn how to make pizza? Do you think about taking up a class in digital marketing or coding? Give all that a try. Do something you've never done before. There's nothing like learning something new to increase that positive energy.

Write About It

Try keeping a pandemic journal. Write down your thoughts. Bottling up your emotions isn't good and can negatively impact your physical as well as mental health and emotional well-being. Writing about the experience can help you release some of what you feel. You can even look back on that experience years later with your journal.

Don't be afraid to reach out to people you know and trust. Share what you feel. Spend some time just talking to them and you'll already feel better.
